Singapore authorities are redirecting their technology-based industry focus towards local development of technology products and systems after decades of reliance on foreign-owned technology companies that provided thousands of mainly assembly level jobs. Entrepreneurship is gradually developing while large numbers of scientists and engineers are moving from the multinationals to an increasing number of locally owned electronics and other technology firms.
