The total number of government-funded students involved in VET courses rose five percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to a new report from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).
The report Government-funded students and courses 2021 found a total of 1,250,100 students were enrolled in government-funded vocational education and training in 2021.
In 2021, there were 1,198,500 students enrolled in nationally recognised training – 95.9 percent of students – and 98,400 in non-nationally recognised training, which was an increase for both from 2020. Most – 80.4 percent or 963,900 students – were undertaking training package qualifications.
NCVER Managing Director Simon Walker said: “Looking at the changes in government-funded students between 2020 and 2021, the largest absolute increase was in qualifications – up 82,000 students or 8.6 percent.
“The largest decline was in skill sets – down 21,100 students or 12.1 percent.”
Student enrolments increased most in the Community Services, Construction, Health, Automotive, Business Services and Electrotechnology training packages, clustered within Certificate III to Diploma level programs.
