Back in Sydney then Adelaide later today. For all the people who contacted me offline about specif projects I will catch up tomorrow.
But here is a challenge EIDA supporters.
Which countries do you think our industry would benefit most from either knowing more about or where our industry has the most to offer (ie should be known to)?
Donald KayKeymasterIt has certainly been a big day here at WEF. The willingness to co-operate among the associations was most impressive and many offers of support have been made to assist EIDA in dealing with each organisations locale.
Certainly TEEMA has made us feel one of the family. Teema has quite some history with Australia – having entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with AEEMA (Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association) many years ago.
It was also good to catch up with Executive Vice President Wang Ning of the China Electroncis Chamber of Commerce and Qiao Yu. Qiao Yu took very good care of the EIA delegation to Qingdao in 2007.
I will write some more later but already there are some deals likely to come out of this for EIDA supporters – the ability to facilitate high level connections has been rewarding.
Here is yours truly presenting. The presentation created quite a bit of interest in projects relating to renewables in South Australia.
The presentations reported on issues and initiatives from electronics industry in a diverse range of maturities and renewal. The recurring themes were 5G (as in 3G and 4G) and Industry 4.0. Also a lot of emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility.
Here is a photo of the mission leaders.
Tomorrow it is off for the opening ceremony of Taitronics electronics trade show.
Donald KayKeymasterWell after day 1 we have had a lot of people sign up and many emails of support and offering various thoughts on the way forward. That is all good but rather than email privately how about putting it here for everyone to ponder (with in reason)

Donald KayKeymasterRon,
Thank you for posting and welcome to the EIDA forum.
I think a lot of the transition has been happening in the industry already – and in some ways that makes it less visible as there are few stand out representative organizations like “Mitsubishi” and “Holden” were in the auto industry (despite the supply chain here being much more than about these two). The larger number of smaller players makes an association like this even more important. In the past a few dominant players could be relied on to carry the mantle for the industry but it is a bit of a burden for singularly any of the smaller players to pick up.
As to what govt should do – that question taxes me. Certainly they should concentrate on what individuals (companies) can not do, or does not make sense to do, individually but which results in a net benefit for the state or nation.
The very first step is to make sure when strategy is being discussed for manufacturing, research and the economy that the Electronics Industry is at the table and understood.
